This publication was developed out of a series of essays focused on education reform, originally posted on Mark: my words and written by Central College President Mark Putnam in spring 2012. As federal, state and local governments contemplate policy and funding changes for education at all levels, this publication is intended to provide some context for these discussions.

I'm the lucky individual who carries the title, 21st president of Central College in Pella, Iowa. Passionate about higher education and the issues facing it and the world today, I hope to invoke an engaging conversation with all who are ready to dig in, make a difference and build for the future.
